Jennifer Lewis, known as “The Mother of Black Hollywood,” is set to receive a star on the St. Louis Walk of Fame on July 13th, 2024.

Founded in 1989, the St. Louis Walk of Fame was created as a nonprofit organization dedicated to showcasing the city’s cultural heritage. Its mission is to promote awareness and appreciation of notable St. Louisans and their achievements while fostering community pride.

Even with her classical theater training and worldwide fame, Jennifer Lewis has never forgotten her St. Louis roots. Raised in Kinloch, MO, she frequently expresses pride in her hometown. Attending Kinloch High School and later Webster University provided the foundation for her successful entertainment career.

Jennifer Lewis, the actress, singer, author, national speaker, and performer, is known globally for her versatility in film, television, and theater. Her exuberant and magnetic energy grabs hold of everyone in her presence.

 Her impressive portfolio includes numerous films, television shows, and Broadway performances such as “Eubie” and “Coming Uptown”. Notable works include “Sister Act,” “The Preacher’s Wife,” and “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” She was also a Staggering Harlette, one of Bette Midler’s background singers, a role that opened the door to other memorable performances.

Jennifer Lewis will receive her star on the St. Louis Walk of Fame, joining the ranks of other great St. Louis icons such as Chuck Berry, Katherine Dunham, Scott Joplin, Vincent Price, Joseph Pulitzer, and over 100 others.
