Brown and Winfrey Represent at the Golden Globes.

This past Sunday’s Golden Globes Awards was one of the most memorable one for black actors in Hollywood.

Sterling K. Brown, the star of “This Is Us” earned the Golden Globes Award for best actor in a television drama. Brown is the first black actor to win such an accolade. Brown hails from St. Louis and is a graduate of Standford and NYU.

Brown is also known for his work in “Brown Sugar” with Nia Long, “Rightous Kill” and the television series “Boston Legal” and “3rd Watch” to name a few.

During his acceptance speech Sterling Brown shared, “Dan Fogelman, you wrote a role for a black man that can only be played by a black man,” Brown said. “What I appreciate so much about this is that I’m being seen for who I am and being appreciated for who I am, and it makes it that much more difficult to dismiss me or dismiss anybody who looks like me.”

Brown and Winfrey represent at the Golden Globes. Oprah Winfrey another noted African American in the field of entertainment stole the show. Winfrey was the first black woman to be awarded the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement. Oprah made her film debut in,  The Color Purple, which earned her a Golden Globe and Oscar nominations for her supporting role.

Oprah brought the house down, bringing many to their feet after giving a rousing speech. She poured out her heart and soul speaking on the horrific problems of sexual harassment.

“For too long women have not been heard or believed if they dared to speak their truth to the power of those men,” Oprah said. “But their time is up.” Brown and Winfrey represent at the Golden Globes leaving many in awe after listening to their powerful acceptance speeches.

Oprah Winfrey’s speech caused her to receive 3 standing ovations when receiving her award.  The Cecil B. DeMille award being presented honors those that have made outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.

Past Golden Globes Award winners are Sidney Poiter, Denzel Washington, Forrest Whittaker, Whoopi Goldberg, Morgan Freeman, Jennifer Hudson, MoNique, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Angela Basset, Irene Cara, Michael Jackson, Prince and Louis Gossett Jr.
